Winchester (U.S.) Model 12 Slide-Action Tube-Magazine Shotgun (repeater/ breech-loading/ smokeless powder/ shot ammunition) Designed by Thomas C. Johnson, the Model 12 is a slide-action, hammerless repeating shotgun. First listed for sale in 1913, it remained in production until cheaper arms prevailed. The Model 12 shotgun expressed the spirit of its times. Mass-produced and beautifully-made, it gave its middle-class owners a sense of pride. --Dr. William L.
