Palmetto Armory Percussion Pistol
Approximately 1,000 pistols were manufactured for the use of South Carolina militia. The pistol bears William Glaze & Company as well as South Carolina state markings on the barrel. This pistol was a direct copy of the US M1842 percussion pistol. The lockplate of this pistol is marked with a circular design that reads PALMETTO ARMORY S * C and has a palmetto tree design inside this circle. At the rear of the lockplate is marked COLUMBIA/S.C. 1852. The side of the barrel is marked WM. GLAZE & CO. The tang of the barrel is marked 1853 and S.C.
This examples retains approximately 5% of its original brown laquer finish on the underside of the barrel. The side of the barrel bears the Wm. Glaze & Company marking on the left side of the barrel near the wood line.
