Colt Engraved Model 1849 Pocket
This engraved percussion revolver was manufactured in 1854. The scrollwork engraving on the barrel and frame follows the style of L.D. Nimschke, one of America's master engravers that was working in New York City in this period. A wolf's head is part of the engraving motif for the hammer. A select piece of walnut was chosen by the factory for the one-piece grips of this revolver.
When received by the National Firearms Museum, this revolver was missing all of its percussion cones. Reproduction parts were ordered and installed, after slight refinishing, by museum volunteer Jerry Keathley.
