U.S. Springfield Krag Jorgensen rifle with Pope barrel
This New Jersey-marked Krag rifle has 1901 pattern sights and may have been one of the rifles used at Bisley Range in 1907 where US Rifle Team members were disqualified for the use of non-standard issue barrels in a military rifle match.
The stock of this rifle is also stamped with the name J Caswell, representing ownership by Colonel John Caswell, internationally famous sportsman, author and soldier. Colonel Caswell donated the "Winged Victory" statue for the rifle match trophy that bears his name. The Caswell Trophy was opened to competition in 1923.
