Sharps Springfield Altered Model 1870 Rifle
About 1,300 of these altered rifles were produced at Springfield Armory as an experiment into producing cartridge arms from Civil War "leftover" percussion actions. A considerable amount of supplemental parts were required to be produced by the armory, boosting the cost of the conversion above practicality.
