Springfield Armory Model 1884 Rifle
The serial number of this rifle indicates that it was in the possession of the Pennsylvania National Guard in 1898 - making it unlikely to have been captured by Native Americans and thus decorated. Prior to the publishing of military serial numbers recorded in the National Archives, collectors did not have the ability to trace arms past date of manufacture.
