U.S./Nippes Model 1840 Musket conversion
This is one of 2,000 U.S. Model 1840 flintlock muskets altered in 1848 to utilize the tape-priming device recently patented by Dr. Edward Maynard, a Washington, D.C. dentist. The alteration was performed by the firm of Daniel Nippes, of Mill Creek, Pennsylvania, using M1840 muskets originally manufactured by Nippes.
