British India Pattern Flintlock Carbine
Originally produced for the United East India Company, the Board of Ordnance purchased large numbers of these long arms to supply British troops after the revolutionary government of France declared war on Britain, Spain, and Holland in 1793. Produced by a variety of gunsmiths, India-pattern arms typically include the manufacturer's name and date on the lockplate, as well as the Broad Arrow indicating government ownership. The lockplate on this example is unmarked, and may be a replacement for a lost or broken original.
