Tower India Pattern Musket
Surplus British arms were sold to the Mexicans and other foreign nations for use by their military forces.
India Pattern muskets differed from the earlier Short Land Pattern design in several respects. Barrel length was reduced from 42 to 39 inches, and the sideplate on the India Pattern arm is both flat and lacking the characteristic tail behind the rear lock screw. The trigger guard and buttplate designs were altered, lesser grades of wood were used for stocks, and less exacting proof tolerences were permitted.
