Dean Martin as Matt Helm
Gyrojet - .49 caliber rocket
Originally a hard-boiled paperback fiction hero, Matt Helm
became a film character that was a parody of the British secret
agent James Bond. Helm's equally fictional employer was known
as ICE (Intelligence and Counter Espionage). Dean Martin's
tongue-in-cheek spy spoofing as Helm was to eventually result in
four movies, each packed with a wild assortment of fantastic arms
and gadgets. The then-new Gyrojet pistol, capable of firing
projectiles housing miniature rocket engines, was one of the
unusual contemporary arms chosen for the first Matt Helm film,
The Silencers.
